Study estimates effectiveness of 2-dose and 3-dose mRNA vaccination against Omicron

In a recent study posted to the medRxiv* preprint server, researchers estimated the efficacy of two-dose and three-dose regimens of two messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines: Moderna’s mRNA-1273 and Pfizer-BioNTech’s BNT162b2 against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused due to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant.

Omicron (B.1.1529) has demonstrated higher infectivity compared to other SARS-CoV-2 variants. In addition, studies have reported lower Omicron neutralization by the existing COVID-19 vaccines. WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the election of Delphine Dean, Ph.D., to its College of Fellows. Dr. Dean was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for outstanding contributions to medical technology development and accessibility through global outreach, advocacy, and education and research program development.

The College of Fellows is comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers in the country. The most accomplished and distinguished engineering and medical school chairs, research directors, professors, innovators, and successful entrepreneurs comprise the College of Fellows.
