New chair of UW Department of Bioengineering named

Princess Imoukhuede, a leader in systems biology research, engineering education, and academic diversity initiatives, has been named the new chair of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. The department is located in both the UW College of Engineering and the UW School of Medicine.

Her appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2022. She will hold the Hunter and Dorothy Simpson Endowed Chair and Professorship.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the election of Princess Imoukhuede, Ph.D., to its College of Fellows. Dr. Imoukhuede was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for pioneering studies in experimental and computational cardiovascular systems biology and inspirational leadership in advancement of inclusion and diversity.

The College of Fellows is comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers in the country. The most accomplished and distinguished engineering and medical school chairs, research directors, professors, innovators, and successful entrepreneurs comprise the College of Fellows.
