The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, the global scientific home of bioelectronic medicine, has been awarded a five-year grant totaling more than $3.7 million from the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) to support research in the molecular basis of bioelectronic medicine. Kevin J. Tracey, MD, president and CEO of the Feinstein Institutes, is the principal investigator leading the research.

Bioelectronic medicine explores the use of electronic devices to treat disease and injury through the body’s nervous system instead of pharmaceuticals. WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the induction of Kevin J. Tracey, MD, President and CEO, Research Administration/Biomedical Science Lab, Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, to its College of Fellows.

Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer. The College of Fellows is comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers. College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering and medicine research, practice, or education” and to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.”

Dr. Tracey was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for “25 years of pioneering work in immunology and neuroscience benefiting patients by replacing drugs with bioelectronic devices targeting neurons.“
