Science Communication and Public Engagement Training

The current political climate and rapidly evolving science landscape have illuminated a growing disconnect between scientists and the public. To bridge this gap–and better reach communities that may be skeptical of science–AIMBE is partnering with communication experts to offer training on public communication skills necessary to engage with non-scientific audiences.

These workshops reflect AIMBE’s growing commitment to strengthening public engagement and equipping members of our community to effectively communicate the importance of their work across a wide range of audiences and platforms. Please find below recordings of science communication trainings that AIMBE has made available as resources for the broader scientific community:

Virtual Workshop Recording: How and Why to Communicate about Our Research

Available Until October 31, 2026

AIMBE hosted this virtual workshop on science communication and public outreach led by Karl Leif Bates, a science journalist and former Executive Director of Research Communications in October 2025. Participants reported a significant increase in their confidence across all public engagement avenues (K-12 STEM outreach, engaging with the public, media interviews, social media, Op-Ed writing) and key science communication skills.

Virtual Workshop Recording: Social Media & Science Misinformation: Practical Strategies for Scientists

AIMBE hosted this virtual workshop on social media and addressing misinformation led by Véronique Koch, a Senior Multimedia Producer at Duke University and an Emmy-winning science filmmaker in March 2026. Participants reported a significant increase in their confidence leveraging social media to address misinformation and across all key science communication skills.
