Early into the pandemic, Konstantina Stankovic, MD, PhD, an inner ear researcher, and otolaryngologist, was surprised when she began seeing patients exposed to COVID-19 in her Massachusetts clinic complaining of hearing loss, ringing in the ears known as tinnitus, and dizziness, which often starts in the inner ear.

Sure, everyone had heard about other odd sensory side effects, such as loss of taste and smell, because of the disease, but hearing loss? That wasn’t even on most people’s radar.

Dr. Lee Gehrke to be inducted into medical and biological engineering elite

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the election of Lee Gehrke, Ph.D., to its College of Fellows. Dr. Gehrke was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for outstanding contributions toward developing low cost rapid diagnostic tests to detect pathogenic viruses in low resource areas.

The College of Fellows is comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers in the country.
